L-G Mishra inaugurates new bridge and development projects in Kargil
Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retired), Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, visited the Thuvina and Faroona villages in Kargil district on August 24 to inaugurate several developmental projects. The event included the inauguration of a newly constructed bridge over the Suru River in Thuvina, Sankoo, Kargil.
During his visit, Lt. Governor Mishra engaged with public representatives to evaluate ongoing developmental projects and to understand the local aspirations and expectations. He emphasized the importance of addressing community needs effectively.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil; Shrikant Suse, DC/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil; Superintendent of Police Kargil, Shree Ram R; SDM Sankoo; SE PWD, Kargil, Skalzang Dorjay; Councilor Saliskote, Mohd Sajjad Khan; along with other officers and officials.
On behalf of the people of Thuvina, the CEC Kargil expressed heartfelt gratitude to Lt. Governor Mishra for his visit. He noted that the L-G’s presence underscores a strong commitment to the development and welfare of Ladakh's residents.
The CEC presented a memorandum detailing several grievances and demands for consideration, including:
- Upgrading Government Middle School Thuvina to a High School
- Establishing a Community Development (CD) Block in Thuvina
- Promoting Rural Tourism in Thuvina
- Setting up a Solar Power Plant in Thuvina
- Constructing the Faroona–Dandal Drass Tunnel
Lt. Governor Mishra acknowledged the demands and assured that they would be reviewed in due course. He highlighted the accelerated developmental progress since the formation of the Union Territory of Ladakh and reiterated that tourism promotion is a priority for the UT Administration. Mishra urged residents to cooperate with the administration for the region’s development.
In addition to the bridge inauguration, Lt. Governor Mishra also inaugurated a 300-litre Milk Pasteurization Plant at Tiger Hill Cooperative Society Ltd. in Faroona and flagged off three Milk Vans in the area.
Councilor Saliskote, Mohd Sajjad, also presented a memorandum on behalf of his constituency, which included demands such as:
- Constructing the Lassar Tunnel
- Remodeling the Khumbathang Canal
- Upgrading Middle School Faroona to a High School
- Upgrading High School Saliskote to Higher Secondary level
- Revising land rates under defense at Khumbathang
- Inducting locals as permanent porters in ordnance and supply
- Cleaning debris from fertile land accumulated due to past floods
In response to the demand for the Lassar Tunnel, Lt. Governor Mishra assured that the matter would be examined and addressed as per norms. He also directed the DC Kargil to prioritize the cleaning of debris from fertile land.
Later, Lt. Governor Mishra visited the Fish Farm Khachan, where he was informed that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the water channel is in progress. He also visited Khree Sultan Cho Stadium, Baimathang, Kargil, and interacted with selected female students who will be sent to the President House in New Delhi for training. This program offers young female horse riders professional training in polo.
The Coach informed the Lt. Governor that the students had acquired essential horse-riding skills during a three-day training camp, including horse control, team coordination, and polo techniques. Lt. Governor Mishra assured the students of comprehensive support during their stay in Delhi and emphasized the importance of female participation in societal and national progress.
