L-G Ladakh raises budget concerns with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman
Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr.) BD Mishra (Retd.), met with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi on November 26 to discuss the Government of India’s decision to revise the budget allocation for the capital component to UT Ladakh for the Financial Year 2024-25.
The LG raised concerns about the potential impact of the budget revision on ongoing development projects, especially those funded by the Hill Councils, which could disrupt the region's overall development. He requested the finance minister to maintain the current budget allocation to ensure the timely completion of crucial projects. The finance minister assured the LG that the matter would be looked into.
In addition to meeting with the Finance Minister, Brig. (Dr.) BD Mishra also had discussions with Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju. The LG brought up several issues related to minority affairs affecting the people of Ladakh, including the availability of scholarships for Ladakhi students.
