L-G convenes meeting with Departmental Secretaries Reviews progress of ongoing projects/schemes
Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) held a meeting with Departmental Secretaries and Head of Departments (HODs) at Raj Niwas on October 30 and reviewed the progress of ongoing project works/schemes and other issues related to their respective departments.
L-G discussed the pre-board exam report of students from government schools of Ladakh who would appear in CBSE board exams for the first time after the government schools in UT Ladakh shifted to CBSE mode. The concerned officials apprised the LG of the results of students in the Pre-Board exams which were conducted to assess the performances of students. Terming the performances of students as ‘unsatisfactory and not up to the mark,’ the concerned officials apprised the LG of the steps being taken to provide extra classes after school and the plan to provide tuition to students appearing in board exams in the winter months to improve their performances. It was informed that around 535 students from Leh and 1035 students from Kargil would appear in the Class 10 board exams while 625 students from Leh and 1304 students from Kargil would appear in Class 12 board exams in 2024.
Stating that teaching and learning should be regular and timely, LG instructed the concerned officials to ensure that there is no delay and barrier in learning and teaching and also to avoid malpractices. He also instructed the concerned officials to prepare programmes for students that are demonstratable for a better understanding of students. He asked the concerned officials to focus on academically weaker students and also to take measures that would help in yielding good results in the board exams.
LG also discussed several other issues with the Departmental Secretaries and HODs, viz. the ongoing preparations for the visit of President of India to Ladakh on its 5th Foundation Day; the progress on the saturation of boundaries of wildlife sanctuaries along with the preparation of the maps of the wildlife protected areas; the progress on the drafting of recruitment rules for gazetted rules to be submitted to UPSC; the detachment and shifting of teaching/non-teaching staff of schools which have temporarily been shut down due to low enrolment of students; the posting of tehsildars in various sub-divisions of Ladakh; the meeting with concerned stakeholders on promotion of sea buckthorn in Ladakh; the installation of police check posts; the redressal of grievances of students facing issue in availing benefit of Rewa scheme; the establishment of Medical College, full-fledged Government Degree College at Sankoo; the purchase of MRI machine along with installation of CT Scan machine at District Hospital, Kargil; the progress on clearance of garbage from higher reaches of Ladakh; the shortlisting of the final logo for the Tourism Department of UT Ladakh; the meeting with concerned stakeholders on Vibrant Villages Programme; the progress on the distribution of pashmina kid pens along with blanket covers, feed, medicines and milk replacers to beneficiaries in Changthang/Durbuk areas; the update on operation of flights for civilians in Kargil and Thoise under the Udaan scheme; the re-tendering of helicopter service for Ladakh; the progress on repairing work at Ladakh House in Delhi; the update on visa for technicians for the pashmina dehairing plant; the progress on saturation of 4G mobile towers in uncovered areas of Ladakh by BSNL; the installation of Jio towers in border areas of Ladakh; the progress on establishment of ladakh’s own Staff Selection Board; the progress on procurement of rice for its distribution to the public under PDS scheme; the update on progress of saturation of Jal Jeevan Mission scheme in Ladakh; the progress on training of girls from Kargil in polo and horse riding from the President’s Body Guard; the feasibility of engaging neurosurgeons at District Hospital in Leh and Kargil to tackle neuro-related cases; the ongoing process of updation of e-KYC of farmers to help them in availing the instalments under PM Kisan scheme, etc.
LG instructed the concerned officials to ensure that teaching/non-teaching posts should be provided to schools in case of their revival. He also asked the concerned officials to inform BEd students to appear in the practical exams at the centres assigned to them.
