Khadi & Village Industries Commission to promote spinning, pottery, and honey in Leh

Hill Council, Leh to submit a report and list of beneficiaries within a week so that Khadi & Village Industries Commission (KVIC) initiate Govt. of India’s schemes like spinning, pottery and honey production in Leh district.  The decision was taken during a meeting convened by KVIC with Dorjay Motup CEC on September 28 at Council Secretariat.

Vinai Kumar Saxena, Chairman, Khadi & Village Industries Commission, Govt. of India was present.

The KVIC at the initial, intend to work on three vital schemes that included wool and pashmina spinning, pottery works and honey production on trial.  On the basis of results, they further aim to strengthen their programs with the more financial provision, equipment, and training by involving larger people.

Vinai Kumar Saxena said that they will provide charkhas and looms with skill training to those people who will be listed by Leh Hill Council. Also, they will provide electric equipment to the pottery makers and wool spinners to ensure quality work, larger production with lesser time and efforts.

KIVC’s third objective is to link villages of Ladakh with National Honey Mission where abundant flora and fauna is available. He said that KIVC will provide Bee boxes to the people and the beneficiaries can generate an additional income of at least ₹ 50,000.

He further added that they are also aiming to work in Leh on handmade papers and many more things in collaboration with LAHDC in coming days.

Dorjay Motup informed that Ladakh has huge potential in value addition of Pashmina, sea buckthorn and horticulture focused seriously with viable programs and financial support from Govt. of India.

Regarding pottery works and honey production, he disclosed that these schemes could also be beneficial for the people in some specific areas and said that LAHDC would extend its support to reach these programs to the genuine people.

He further added that most of the KIVC programs are relevant for Ladakh and urged upon the Chairman, KIVC to bring more schemes with adequate funds.

Executive Councilors Tsering Wangdus, Gyal P Wangyal, and  Mumtaz Hussain also gave valuable inputs about the viability and potentiality of schemes in the region.
