In preparation for the upcoming Muharram observances and to improve traffic management and parking facilities, the Municipal Committee Kargil on June 15 conducted a major roadside clearance drive along the Circular Old Hospital Road from Bus Stand to Upper Changchik.

The drive was carried out under the leadership of Executive Officer, Municipal Committee Kargil, Ayas Ahmad (JKAS), in coordination with Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Kargil, Ghulam Mohd (JKAS).

During the drive, accumulated debris (malba) and other roadside obstructions were removed to facilitate road widening and improve vehicular movement. A workforce of 15 labourers, along with two JCB machines and two dumpers, was deployed for the clearance operation.

ADDC Kargil said the initiative was undertaken in view of limited parking space in the Main Bazaar area and the expected increase in traffic during Muharram. He added that widening of the Circular Road would help reduce congestion by providing an alternative route for commuters and ensuring smoother traffic regulation during the religious observances.

He further stated that similar clearance and road improvement works will continue at other identified locations to enhance public convenience, strengthen urban infrastructure, and ensure smooth movement of vehicles during Muharram and other major events.
