IIT Madras delegation meets LG of Ladakh to discuss Sindhu Central University progress
A delegation led by Professor Sachin S Gunthe from IIT Madras called on tLieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat on July 9.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner/Secretary to the LG, L Franklin; Commissioner/Secretary, Higher Education, Padma Angmo; Vice-Chancellor of University of Ladakh (UoL), and In-charge Registrar, Nawang Tundup.
Prof Sachin, Faculty Coordinator for Sindhu Central University with mentorship from IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur, informed the LG about their visit to Ladakh to assess the progress of the university. He mentioned that work on the transit camp of Sindhu Central University is expected to be completed by the end of August.
Highlighting their goals, Prof Sachin stated that Sindhu Central University aims to be completed within four years. He shared details about three courses initiated in collaboration with IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur, with seven students enrolled, including three from Ladakh. He also discussed plans for joint ventures with University of Ladakh.
LG emphasized on the integration of local students from Sindhu Central University currently studying at IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur into the main campus placements. Various other issues were deliberated, including research on wind energy at University of Ladakh, preference for Ladakhi students and faculty at Sindhu Central University, and reservations for local students at University of Ladakh.
