The Department of Transport, Government of Himachal Pradesh commenced a trial bus service between Keylong and Padum on June 19 following a request by Er. Punchok Tashi, Executive Councilor of the Zanskar Development Authority.

This bus service from Manali to Padum is designed to benefit commuters such as tourists, students, and the general public of Zanskar. As HRTC is a commercially viable transport option, the fare would be reasonable, similar to the successful operation of bus services to Leh.

Er. Punchok Tashi expressed his gratitude to the Minister of Transport, Government of Himachal Pradesh, and Rohan Thakur (IAS), MD HRTC, for their personal intervention in this request.

Following the opening of the Padum Darcha road via Shingkunla, the people of Zanskar have become more reliant on Himachal Pradesh, increasing their trade and other activities, including tourism.
