Hill Council Leh launches ‘Rolyangs-pa Rogs’ scheme Also commences week-long Cultural Revival Workshop and Language Awareness Camp
Hill Council, Leh launched its new scheme ‘Rolyangs-pa Rogs’ under its subsidy component. The scheme was inaugurated by CEC, LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson on February 16 at Shey Palace.
‘Rolyangs-pa Rogs’ is a scheme under LAHDC Leh’s subsidy component in which traditional musical instruments of Daman and Surna are provided to the beneficiaries at a 75% subsidized rates, which is implemented through the Department of Information and Public Relations, Leh.
A week-long cultural revival workshop and language awareness camp organised by LAHDC Leh in collaboration with Ladakh Academy of Arts Culture and Languages, Leh also commenced today.
Deputy Chairman, Tsering Angchuk; Executive Councillor for Art & Culture, Stanzin Chosphel; Executive Councillor for RDD, Tashi Namgyal Yakzee, Executive Councillor for Minority Affairs, Ghulam Mehdi, along with Councillor Thiksay, Stanzin Chosfail; Councillor Nyoma, Ishey Spalzang; Nominated Councillor, Ven Konchok Tsepel, Chairperson BDC Thiksey, Tsewang Paldan; Deputy Secretary, Cultural Academy; concerned departmental officers; artists; village representatives and public were also present.
The week-long Cultural Revival Workshop and Language Awareness Camp will be held in around 110 villages of Leh district starting from February 16. This camp has been ideated by the Hill Council, Leh with the aim and vision to preserve, conserve and promote Ladakh's rich socio-cultural heritage, which is equally unique and significant. It focuses on strongly upholding the tribal identity of Ladakh embedded in its different customs, traditions, rituals, and languages in the course of the developmental path that Ladakh as a Union Territory now treads upon.
CEC Tashi Gyalson expressed hope that the Cultural Revival Workshop and the Language Awareness Camp will achieve the vision and objective with which the Council initiated it. He added that preserving our language, culture, and heritage falls on ourselves and that we should strive internally to protect and conserve our rich tribal identity.
He further added that the Hill Council, Leh is committed and is making concerted efforts in promoting and conserving the rich cultural heritage according to the uniqueness of Ladakh.
EC Art & Culture, Stanzin Chosphel added that under the guidance of CEC Tashi Gyalson, the Hill Council, Leh has always prioritized the promotion and conservation of the culture and language of Ladakh. He shared that, in this context, the Council has initiated a new scheme ‘Rolyangs-pa Rogs’ for distributing traditional musical instruments (Daman/Surna) at highly subsidized rates as these instruments are an essential part of our tradition and identity.
Deputy Secretary, LAACL Leh, Tsewang Paljor highlighted the importance of Ladakh’s rich traditions, customs, language and heritage, and the need for its promotion and preservation at the grass root level.
