Hill Council, Leh inspects food products, seizes expired items
Executive Councillors, Hill Council, Leh along with the surveillance team of the Food and Supply department took stock of the essential supplies in the market areas of Leh town on April 28.
The officials inspected the quality of food products with their expiry dates along with the proper implementation of rate lists and COVID protocols (SOPs). It was found that many of the shops were having outdated products in their stock which include, Biscuits, Gajak, Bread Rusks, Canned Veg/Non-Veg items, and raw Macaronis. Some of the shopkeepers were found selling Cereals and Pulses without proper rate charts and some even without proper licenses.
Later, all the Executive Councillors (ECs) convened a meeting at the Council Secretariat, Leh under the chairmanship of Deputy Chairman, Tsering Angchuk.
Concerned ECs and supervising team put forward their feedback and suggestions in strengthening Consumer Rights and maintaining timely surveillance of the food products in the market throughout the year. It was discussed that rate charts on every shop should be visible to the consumers and strict actions will be taken against violators.
