Health Department, Kargil, observes World Mental Health Day
Health Department Kargil in collaboration with Government Degree College Kargil observed World Mental Health Day theme, ‘Mental Health is a Universal Human Right’ on October 10 at the college campus.
The program aimed to bridge the gap between existing mental health conditions and the awareness around them.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Wani talked about World Mental Health Day and its overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health.
He said the day provides an opportunity for all stakeholders working on mental health issues to talk about their work, and what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide.
MS District Hospital Kargil said the day provides an opportunity to talk about mental health in general, addressing issues related to how to break the stigma around it and the importance of speaking out when struggling with a mental health issue.
He said along with the treatment gap, one must address workplace stress, help adolescents in schools along with the caregivers and families of people living with mental health issues and proactively address stigma and discrimination associated with mental health that creates barriers to access care and treatment.
Students of GDC Kargil presented a skit and sang a song regarding mental stress. They presented a message for all to get out of the stigma associated with mental health issues.
