Former MLA Nubra meets Lt. Governor BD Mishra to discuss development projects

Former MLA from Nubra, Deldan Namgyal, met with Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr.) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat on March 12 to discuss key infrastructure and tourism projects for the region.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Dr. Pawan Kotwal, IAS; Secretary of Tourism and Culture, Vikram Singh Malik, IAS; Secretary of Education, Bhanu Prabha, IAS; and Chief Engineer, PWD, Mutalib.
Deldan Namgyal apprised the LG of the proposed construction of a pilgrimage gathering hall at Kobet Monastery under the Tourism Department’s SDP 2024-25 plan, estimated at ₹5.20 crores. He raised concerns over the project’s funding ceiling being capped at ₹2 crores, which he argued could hinder its progress. He sought the LG’s intervention for the Accord of Administrative Approval (AAA) to ensure the project’s completion.
Additionally, he highlighted the urgent need for the early construction of the Shatse Bridge under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF). The bridge would significantly improve connectivity for villages across the Shayok River, including Barma, Yarma Gonbo, Kobet, and the entire Siachen belt, reducing travel distances to Diskit headquarters. He requested the LG to take up the matter with the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH), Government of India.
In response, LG Mishra assured that the UT Administration would coordinate with LAHDC Leh to prioritize the pilgrimage gathering centre under the SDP for the financial year 2025-26. He also confirmed that the administration would review the DPR and make necessary decisions accordingly.
Regarding the Shatse Bridge, the LG stressed the importance of expediting construction and directed the Secretary, PWD, to engage with MoRTH officials in Delhi to push the project forward.
The discussion underscored the administration’s commitment to boosting tourism, improving connectivity, and ensuring holistic development in Nubra and the larger Ladakh region.
