Empowering youth through digital skills: NIELIT classes begin at GDC Zanskar

The Government Degree College (GDC) Zanskar has formally commenced class work at the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) Centre established on the college campus, marking a significant step towards strengthening digital and technical education opportunities for students of the region.

The programme commenced with an introductory address by Dr. Jamphel Sheyan, Assistant Professor, English, who highlighted the objectives and importance of the NIELIT course. He emphasized the growing relevance of computer literacy and digital skills in contemporary recruitment processes and encouraged students to utilize the opportunity to enhance their employability and professional prospects.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi, Principal, GDC Zanskar, highlighted the importance of the NIELIT Centre and the efforts made by the college administration in establishing this vital facility in the region. He underlined the role of digital education in empowering youth and stated that the centre would provide students access to quality computer education closer to their homes.

The Principal expressed gratitude to the Secretary, Higher Education Department, UT Ladakh, the Director, NIELIT Leh, and the civil society of Zanskar for their valuable support and cooperation in establishing the centre.

Dr. Abassi urged students to enroll in the course and make the best use of the facility. He described the centre as an important platform for gaining information technology skills and exploring career opportunities in the digital sector. He also called upon NIELIT faculty members to conduct classes, assignments, and practical sessions with dedication and professionalism. Further, he encouraged students to utilize other college facilities, including the library, sports infrastructure, and gymnasium, for their overall academic and personal development.

Nima Dolma, Faculty Member, NIELIT, informed students that regular classes had commenced from the day of the programme and would continue as scheduled. She encouraged students to participate actively, maintain regular attendance, and complete the programme successfully to obtain certification.

She assured students that the NIELIT faculty would provide quality instruction and practical training to support their skill development and career advancement.
