EJM College Leh conducts three-day field work-cum-exposure tour to Sankoo, Kargil
The Department of Sociology and the Department of Economics of Eliezer Joldan Memorial (EJM) College, Leh, jointly organised a three-day field work-cum-exposure tour to Sankoo in Kargil district, which concluded on May 9.
The programme was formally flagged off from the college campus on May 7 under the guidance and patronage of the Principal of EJM College, Prof. Stanzin Yangdol.
Students from the 4th and 6th semesters of the major streams participated in the educational tour aimed at providing practical exposure and experiential learning opportunities.
The field visit was organised with the objective of enabling students to connect theoretical concepts with the prevailing socio-economic realities of rural communities, with particular focus on the role of women in Sankoo village of Kargil district.
During the tour, students interacted with members of the local community and gained valuable insights into socio-economic conditions, livelihood patterns, and the contribution of women to the village economy.
The exercise also enhanced students’ understanding of field-based research methodologies, data collection techniques, community engagement, and interdisciplinary perspectives within the social sciences.
As part of the academic exposure programme, faculty members and students also visited Government Degree College Kargil, where they interacted with faculty members and students, facilitating academic exchange and institutional exposure. The tour further included visits to historically significant sites in Kargil district.
The Departments expressed gratitude to Principal Prof. Stanzin Yangdol for the support and encouragement extended towards the successful organisation of the programme.
Appreciation was also extended to the residents of Sankoo village, Dr. Mohd. Taqee, Dawa Dorjey, and all concerned for ensuring safe boarding, lodging, transportation, and warm hospitality throughout the visit.
