The Election Commission of India (ECI) will host a National Conference of State Election Commissioners (SECs) on February 24 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. State Election Commissioners from all States and Union Territories are expected to attend.

This is the first National SEC Conference in over 25 years, with the last held in 1999.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar will chair the conference, joined by Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi. They will address the SECs during the inaugural ceremony. Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of all 36 States and UTs will also participate.

The conference aims to strengthen coordination between ECI and SECs regarding electoral processes and logistics within their respective legal frameworks. Participants, along with their legal and technical experts, will discuss topics including electoral laws, elector eligibility, technological interventions such as the ECINET digital platform, and the use of EVMs.

The ECI will also share its expertise in preparing electoral rolls and conducting elections under the Constitution of India and the legal framework of the nation.

State Election Commissions are established under the provisions of the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments. SECs are responsible for the supervision, direction, and control of electoral rolls and the conduct of elections to Panchayats and Municipal Bodies.
