EC Tashi chairs meeting to address labour department issues in Zanskar sub-division
Executive Councillor (EC) for Rural Development and Zanskar Development Authority, LAHDC Kargil, Er. Punchok Tashi, chaired a meeting to discuss key issues concerning the Labour Department in the Zanskar Sub-Division on December 20.
The meeting was attended by Assistant Labour Commissioner (ALC) Kargil, Arifa Iqbal Lone; President of the Zanskar Labour and Welfare Union, Stanzin Munjhom Manju; and Vice President, Mansoor Ahmed.
During the meeting, the ALC provided a detailed overview of the implementation of welfare schemes for labourers and shared updates on the construction progress of the Labour Sarai in Zanskar.
It was reported that a total of 700 labourers have been registered with the department. In 2022, approximately ₹5,50,000 in financial assistance was disbursed among 71 labourers. Regarding the Labour Sarai, the ALC informed that 90% of the construction work has been completed, with only furnishing tasks remaining.
EC Tashi directed the ALC to expedite the completion of the Labour Sarai and stressed the importance of conducting regular awareness camps in Zanskar to educate the community about welfare schemes available to them.
President of the Zanskar Labour and Welfare Union, Stanzin Munjhom Manju, and Vice President, Mansoor Ahmed, briefed the EC about the formation of a new Zanskar Labour Association. They also presented a memorandum of demands and issues affecting labourers in the sub-division.
EC Tashi assured the attendees that their concerns and demands would be addressed in a phased manner, emphasizing the council’s commitment to the welfare of Zanskar’s labour community.
