DRDO initiative of women augmenting services held

Marking the International Women’s day celebration, Defence Institute of High Altitude Research (DIHAR), Leh organised a national workshop ‘DRDO Initiative of Women Augmenting Services (DIWAS-2018)’ on March 11 in Leh.

The workshop was to celebrate the role of women in nation building and commitment to create a gender-neutral work environment to facilitate skill development and enhancement among women across the globe. 

The workshop was inaugurated by Chering Dorje, Minister for Cooperative and Ladakh Affairs Department, J&K.

Chering Dorje said that the day is celebrated to uphold achievements by women all across the globe. Women with the traits of dedication and motivation are naturally blessed to make a phenomenal career in science and technology. 

He said that the women fraternity in DRDO has successfully balance and proved themselves as extremely dedicated Defence scientist as well. 

He further congratulated all the women engage in the service of Indian Defence system including the one wearing military uniforms and those working to facilitate arm forces by various means. And also appreciated women of DRDO for working tirelessly with the devotion and determination to make the country self-reliant in Defence technology. 

Complimenting the DRDO women scientist for their immense dedication towards the nation, Dr. S Christopher said that they should make use of the opportunity and see themselves in the position to lead not only the country but also the world.
 
While congratulating the organizing committee for bringing the participants together, Dr. Shashi Bala Singh, Scientist & Director General (Life Sciences) and Chairperson of “DIWAS-2018” said, “Education is a key to empowerment, if you want to change something you have to be the agent of that change.”

Padmashree awardee Dr. Tsering Ladol expressed her contentment and said, “I am very happy to see the women scientist and the audience in large are maximum women. Women should work with full sincerity at their workplace. They should not fear challenges and fight back gracefully.”

Aparna Kumar, DIG, ITBP, Chitra Ramakrishna, Former MD & CEO, NSE and Dr. Pratibha Jolly, Principal, Miranda College, Delhi University were among the guest who graced the occasion. 

Women scientists of DRDO participating at the workshop included Dr Chitra Rajagopal, Distinguished Scientist & Director General - Systems Analysis and Modelling (SAM) and Dr. Tessy Thomas, Director, ASL, Hyderabad.
