DLSA Leh highlights workplace safety with sexual harassment awareness program
District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Leh, organised an awareness program on sexual harassment at the workplace at the office of the Child Welfare Committee on August 30.
The program was attended by Advocate Nema Stanzin, Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel Leh; Advocate Phuntsog Stobgyal, Assistant Legal Aid Defence Counsel Leh; Mumtaz Hussain, Chairperson of the CWC; Shela Khan, Member of the JJB; Tashi Dolma, Member of the CWC; as well as staff from the JJB, CWC, and LLSA, and Para Legal volunteers from DLSA Leh.
Advocate Nema Stanzin highlighted the victim compensation scheme under the Criminal Justice System and advised all participants on protecting themselves at the workplace.
Advocate Phuntsog Stobgyal covered key aspects of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act 2013, including definitions of sexual harassment, the complaint mechanism, and the role of the Internal Complaints Committee. He emphasized that the POSH Act 2013 is crucial legislation designed to safeguard employees from sexual harassment at the workplace, stressing the importance for all institutions to have a robust mechanism to prevent and address such issues.
Tashi Dolma, Member of the CWC, spoke about the significant collaboration with DLSA Leh and expressed hope for continued joint efforts.
