District Police Leh organises awareness programme Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking Student should become brand ambassador to campaign against drug abuse and illicit trafficking: SSP, Leh
Marking International day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking, District Police Leh organised a public outreach/awareness programmes under the banner of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ on June 25 at EJM College, Leh.
PD Nitya, SSP Leh briefed about the drug abuse and illicit trafficking in the district, and also the remedial measure was taken by the District police, Leh. She asked the student community to come forward and become part of the Ladakh police in the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
She further requested the student to become a brand ambassador to campaign against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
Prof SK Mehta, Vice-Chancellor, University of Ladakh while speaking on the occasion advised the student community to keep distance from such psychotropic substances which will ruin their future. He appreciated the student community for their participation in the anti-drug campaign in large numbers and by staging skits and dramas which carry lasting messages against drug abuse and other ill effects of drug use.
VC Mehta also appreciated and thanked District Police Leh for conducting and celebrating the international day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking and the continuous effort put by the Ladakh police in curbing the menace of drug abuse and trafficking in the Ladakh region.
Under the direction of PHQ UT Ladakh, District Police Leh has been organising a week-long drug abuse and illicit trafficking awareness campaign across the district. Police Post Choglamsar and SIT Narcotic Unit, Leh conducted the awareness programme at TCV School Choglamsar; Police Post Tangste at Govt Higher Secondary school Tharuk; Police Station Leh at Lamdon Model Higher Secondary School Leh; Police Station Nyoma at Govt Higher Secondary school Nyoma; Police Post Khaltse at Khaltse Market; Women Police Station and SIT Narcotic at Govt Girl Higher Secondary School Leh and Sakti, Police Station Nubra at GHSS Diskit; Police Post Kharu at Upshi market; Police Post Housing Colony at Agling TR Camp and Community Hall Spituk and Police Post Turtuk at GHSS Turtuk.
A large number of students and the general public including women, children, and villagers participated. The station house police officers and the special team of the anti-narcotic unit officers sensitized the participants about the drug trafficking/abuses, illicit liquor selling, and other emerging social crimes in the society and urged especially women and children to use the services of women to help desks established at the respective police station and use Dial 112 for lodging any complaint without any hesitation. They urged the participants to cooperate with the local police and immediately inform the police station about any incident related to drug abuse so that prompt and early action under law is taken before the incident takes an ugly turn.
The participants expressed gratitude and appreciated District Police Leh and Ladakh police for conducting such an awareness campaign and requested such awareness programs in the future also.
