District Advisory Committee on Environment meeting held Discusses traffic management, parking facilities, road improvement in Leh town
The District Advisory Committee on Environment (DACE) held a meeting on January 10, regarding the formulation of environment policy for Leh district. Phunchok Stanzin, EC Agriculture convened the meeting with Ladakh Ecological Development Group Leh (LEDeG), DSP Traffic, Leh and ARTO, Leh with DACE members.
Discussion about the present scenario of traffic management, parking facilities, road improvement, alternate bypass roads, realignment of PDD and BSNL poles from roads to decongest traffic, installation of CCTV, lack of footpath, road safety audit, pollution checking of vehicles including army vehicles, check on noise pollution, lack of footpaths and challenges regarding traffic regulation and public transport system in Leh town with possible solutions were held.
Ishey Tundup, Director LEDeG and his team gave a powerpoint presentation on Liveable Leh project and survey conducted by LEDeG team on Public Transport network for Leh. They assured possible support from LEDeG to Hill Council, Leh.
Phunchok said that to solve the problems of traffic and public transport facilities, Hill Council, Leh will take action at the earliest and for major decision and project, a comprehensive project will be prepared with a provision of funds in near future.
