Discussion on Education Policy held under the chairmanship Deputy Chairman, LAHDC, Leh

Deputy Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Tsering Angchuk, convened a meeting on April 1 in the presence of Executive Councillor Stanzin Chosphel to discuss the education policy and the implementation of foundational literacy and competency-based learning. The meeting took place in the conference hall of LAHDC Leh.
Attendees included Councillor Lower Leh, Councillor Basgo, the Chief Education Officer Leh, the Deputy Secretary of Culture, the Principal of DIET, the Headmaster of Government High School Nimo, and members of the Village Education Committee of Government High School Nimo.
Officials briefed the Deputy Chairman on various aspects of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizing foundational literacy, concept-based learning, and the need for hands-on and engaging teaching methods. The Deputy Secretary of Culture presented the concept of “The Village Teaches, The Village Learns,” which envisions transforming villages into educational hubs through community participation and traditional wisdom.
The discussion also covered competency-based learning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. The Deputy Chairman underscored the transformative power of education, advocating for reforms, workshops, and a structured roadmap to enhance the education system. He stressed the importance of integrating traditional knowledge with modern learning methods to make education more locally relevant. Additionally, he announced plans to launch a pilot project soon.
The Chief Education Officer commended the initiative, highlighting ongoing efforts in education. He emphasized the role of School Management Committees (SMCs) and the need to strengthen both academic and infrastructural aspects of schools.
The meeting concluded with a consensus on adopting a systematic approach to implementing the proposed initiatives while maintaining the integrity of the existing education framework. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to transforming education, empowering students, and strengthening communities through collaborative efforts.
