Director of Animal/Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, Dr. Mohd Iqbal, Conducts Extensive Tour of Zanskar Valley
Dr. Mohd Iqbal, Director of Animal/Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, UT Ladakh, conducted a comprehensive tour of Zanskar Subdivision.
Upon arrival at Abran on June 10, Dr. Iqbal received a warm welcome from Dr. Ashiq Hussain, Livestock Development Officer (LDO) Zanskar, and officials from the Sheep Husbandry Department (SHD) Zanskar.
During the tour, Dr. Iqbal reviewed several ongoing infrastructure development programs in Zanskar. He was briefed by LDO Zanskar on the progress of the modern Veterinary Hospital in Padum, funded under the Special Development Package (SDP) at an estimated cost of Rs 5.58 Crores. Assured by the LDO of its timely completion within the current working season, Dr. Iqbal instructed close monitoring of the construction.
Dr. Iqbal conducted a thorough inspection of the livestock at the Equine Breeding Farm (EBF) Zanskar, expressing satisfaction with the ongoing activities and emphasizing animal health and prophylactic measures. He also inspected the IWDP work valued at Rs 50 lakh, expressing contentment with the progress.
Additionally, Dr. Iqbal convened a meeting with all in-charges of the Livestock Development Centers (LDC) of Zanskar Subdivision at the LDO office, focusing on project evaluation and future initiatives for enhancing livestock development.
Later, Dr. Ashiq Hussain, LDO Zanskar, submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to Dr. Iqbal for the strengthening and upgrading of the Equine Breeding Farm Zanskar, aimed at better serving the local livestock industry.
Dr. Iqbal’s visit underscores the department's commitment to improving animal husbandry and veterinary services in UT Ladakh, ensuring livestock health and wellbeing, and supporting essential infrastructure for sustainable regional development.
On June 11, during interactions with animal breeders in Karsha, Dr. Iqbal responded to requests for the upgradation of the Livestock Development Center (LDC) Karsha and assured the establishment of an auxiliary animal health center in Sani village.
En route to Kargil, Dr. Iqbal engaged with livestock breeders and addressed their concerns regarding healthcare facilities, issuing directives to ensure comprehensive veterinary services under BVO Panikhar.
At Rangdum village, a delegation emphasized the need for a livestock development center and other facilities for grazing livestock. Dr. Iqbal assured prompt action to fulfill their demands.
Upon arriving at Panikhar, Dr. Iqbal inspected the newly constructed block veterinary hospital and discussed road access issues, agreeing in principle on solutions with local stakeholders.
Furthermore, at Sankoo, Dr. Iqbal reviewed ongoing projects at the Block Veterinary Office (BVO) and directed the setup of an Auxiliary Veterinary Pharmacy cum Artificial Insemination Center. Discussions with the Sheep Development Officer focused on resolving access road issues to the main office.
