Director General, BRO calls on LG Mathur Provides update on various ongoing project works in Ladakh
Director General (DG), Border Roads Organisation (BRO), Lieutenant General Rajeev Chaudhary met Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, RK Mathur on April 14 at Raj Niwas.
DG BRO Lt Gen Rajeev updated LG Mathur on their ongoing project works in Ladakh, including the Hanuthang-Handanbroke-Zingpal-Turtuk road, status of the detailed project report (DPR) for Kela Pass, construction of Chushul-Demchok road and progress on the Nimoo-Padum-Darcha road.
Lt Gen Rajeev also informed about setting up new RCC Units and Task Forces and the need for allotment of land for carrying out various project works in Ladakh. He also apprised about using the latest technology and equipment to expedite the completion of various projects in Ladakh.
LG Mathur appreciated BRO for opening the Zoji-La and Manali-Leh National Highways in record time and also for working for the welfare of the labourers. He inquired about the timeframe and challenges faced by BRO in the completion of the Nimoo-Padum-Darcha road and also suggested that BRO may simultaneously develop an alternate route. He also requested BRO for improvement of the gradient of the Nimoo-Padum-Darcha Road.
Lt Gen Rajeev also provided updates on the installation of crash barriers using steel wire ropes on roadsides to avoid accidents and setting up labour sarai with proper heating, washing, drinking and bathing facilities for labourers. He further informed that BRO is providing labourers with sleeping bags and goggles, and snow tents with heating facilities for labourers working in remote and high-altitude areas.
He shared about the ongoing registration process of labourers on the e-Shram portal along with their insurance. Initiative for the establishment of cafes along the national highway in Ladakh was also informed.
