Department of Sociology, Kargil campus celebrates “Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas”
Department of Sociology in collaboration with Tribal Research Centre, Kargil campus, University of Ladakh celebrated “Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas” on November 15.
Dean Academic Affairs/ Controller of the Examination University of Ladakh, Prof. Deskyong Namgyal emphasised the need for rigorous research work and investigation for a better understanding of tribal composite culture across the nation as well as a contextual understanding of various tribal groups in Ladakh. He also thanked the Govt. of India for adopting 15 November as the national “Tribal Pride Day/ Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas” whereby educational institutions could explore the gamut of tribal composition social structure in India.
Dr. Konchok Paldan, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology presented a paper titled, “Birsa Munda’s major Contributions in Reviving Traditional Tribal Culture in India”.
Ghulam Mohd student of 2nd Semester PG Sociology presented a paper “Spectrum of major tribal movements in Pre-Independence India led by Birsa Munda”. While Kharun Nissa, student of 2nd Semester, PG Sociology talked about “Contextual Understanding of Tribal Culture in Ladakh”.
