Department of Horticulture, Leh conducts one-day farmers' training programme in Nubra zone
The Department of Horticulture, Leh, through Horticulture Zone Nubra, organized a one-day Farmers' Training Programme on pruning, training, and orchard sanitation on February 25 at Kuri, Murgi, and Trisha villages in the Nubra region.
The programme witnessed active participation from local farmers and orchardists. It aimed to enhance their technical knowledge and practical skills in scientific pruning and training methods, while also highlighting the importance of maintaining proper orchard sanitation to ensure healthy plant growth and improved productivity.
During the session, Hamid Ullah, Horticulture Technician, along with field staff of the department, delivered detailed lectures and conducted practical demonstrations on scientific pruning techniques, canopy management, removal of diseased and dead wood, and sanitation practices to prevent pest and disease incidence. Special emphasis was laid on timely orchard operations to improve fruit quality and yield under the local agro-climatic conditions of Nubra.
The programme was organized as part of the department’s continuous efforts to strengthen the horticulture sector by promoting modern and scientific orchard management practices among farmers. The initiative aims to improve productivity, reduce crop losses, and enhance the overall income of orchardists in the region.
