Delegation of LAHDC Leh met Prime Minister Narendra Modi

A delegation of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC)-Leh, led by Dorjay Motup, CEC, Leh called on Narendra Modi, Prime Minister on March 28 at New Delhi.
During the meeting, the delegation urged Narendra Modi to look into the rationalization of the aviation policy with regard to Ladakh region and emphasized on fully operational and rationalized aviation system required for an uninterrupted travel of the people between Ladakh and other parts of the country. They drew his attention towards the skyrocketing airfares affecting the common man of Ladakh. And also, demanded development and expansion of the Kushok Bakula Rinpoche Airport terminal building.
A memorandum demanding urgent implementation of direct funding of Centrally Sponsored Schemes to Ladakh, commissioning of 220 KV transmission line from Srinagar to Leh, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojna, National Rural Drinking Water, BADP and flood management programmes for the region was submitted.
The acute problem being faced by the people due to the poor telecommunication network in the region was also put forth. They also emphasized a preferential treatment to the local Cooperative Marketing Societies in awarding the contracts for the supply of fresh vegetables, fruits, milk etc to army and paramilitary deployed in the region.
Setting up of a medical college in Leh, Construction of strategically important tunnels at Khardungla, Lachangla and Taglangla and all-weather roads across Prang la in Himachal Pradesh and Korzok in Ladakh, special package for J&K with a sufficient share to the people of Ladakh region was also demanded.
Informing the Prime Minister about the threats caused to the life and property by the flood in Siachen river, a team of experts from the Central Government for conducting a survey of its course and cost estimates for the building of embankments were demanded.
Demanding adequate funding for speedy completion of important border roads, the delegates informed the Prime Minister that, in a limited working season, the works on several strategic roads are being invariably taken up by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) for the upgradation and widening, however, due to paucity of funds the pace of the work is very slow.
They sought his immediate intervention for early starting of pending works and completion of major projects under PMDP.
