DC Kargil reviews preparations for Khelo India programme
A meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC Kargil, Rakesh Kumar, on April 9 at NIC Hall, Kargil, to deliberate on the upcoming Khelo India initiative and related activities.
The meeting was attended by Additional District Development Commissioner Ghulam Mohammad, Additional Deputy Commissioner Shabir Hussain, District Youth Services & Sports Officer, District Social Welfare Officer, and In-charge SAI Centre, Kargil.
Detailed discussions were held on planning, coordination, and effective implementation of the Khelo India programme in the district, with emphasis on promoting sports at the grassroots level and ensuring active participation of youth across Kargil.
The Deputy Commissioner directed that special tournaments be organised for specially-abled individuals to ensure inclusivity in sports activities. He also emphasised that ongoing tournaments at Biamathang Ground should not be disrupted. Accordingly, the Youth Services & Sports Department was instructed to conduct semi-final and final matches at Biamathang, while remaining matches may be held at alternate venues such as Sharjah and Kaksar grounds, as well as other available locations. He further advised utilising school playgrounds wherever feasible.
Additionally, he stressed the importance of organising tournaments under the SPAN scheme, aimed at promoting peace and harmony, and directed that women and girls be actively included in all such sporting activities. He also encouraged the inclusion of diverse disciplines such as boxing, weightlifting, and other feasible sports to ensure wider participation.
The chair underscored the importance of inter-departmental coordination for the smooth execution of all proposed activities and directed concerned officers to take necessary steps for timely implementation.
