DC Changthang reviews development works and public welfare initiatives in Durbuk

Deputy Commissioner, Changthang, Nitish Rajora, visited Sub-Division Durbuk on June 25 and reviewed various developmental projects and public welfare initiatives being implemented in the area.

During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner inaugurated the Public Library at Tangtse along with the Station Commander, 114 HQ Tangtse. The facility has been constructed by the Indian Army under Operation Sadbhavana.

Speaking on the occasion, the Station Commander highlighted the importance of utilising the library effectively, particularly by students, for academic development and learning. The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the Indian Army for establishing the facility, which is equipped with over 1,000 books, a rest room, toilet facilities and heating arrangements.

Later, Rajora chaired a review meeting with officials of the Rural Development Department, Durbuk, and LREDA to assess the implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules 2026, Viksit Bharat Gram Gram Panchayat Abhiyan (VBGGA) and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

The Deputy Commissioner stressed the need to enhance public awareness regarding Single-Use Plastics (SUP) and directed officials to ensure strict enforcement of regulations, including penalties for violations.

In a separate meeting, Rajora reviewed the functioning of the Health Department at PHC Tangtse. Officials presented details regarding healthcare infrastructure, patient care services, departmental activities and ongoing schemes.

The Deputy Commissioner directed officials to ensure saturation of target-based welfare schemes and instructed them to conduct fortnightly awareness camps on drug abuse prevention and mental health awareness.

During the visit, several delegations from Durbuk and Tangtse met the Deputy Commissioner and raised various local issues and concerns. Rajora assured them that all genuine grievances would be addressed on priority.
