Cybercrime unit, Leh cracks online fraud case in 3 days
Timely reporting of the online bank fraud to the cybercrime unit Leh proved to be a savior for one victim, who got back the lost amount.
Cyber Crime unit Leh received a complaint from Tashi Samstan R/o Zanskar on January 10 regarding the fraudulent transfer of ₹ 56,991/- from his SBI Account through the Yono SBI app.
Tashi Samstan said, “ I was getting some technical issues while using Yono SBI App and contacted customer care number of Yono SBI. I copied the customer care number from google and followed the instruction of customer care. They transferred the call and as per instruction, I downloaded the AnyDesk application after that I got to know that my amount has been lost. I registered my complaint to the cybercrime cell, Leh and within 3 days I got my lost amount.”
He expressed his gratitude to the team of the cyber-crime unit, Leh Ladakh Police for the immediate action and retrieving the amount.
Talking about the case during a press conference on January 14, Stanzin Paljor, Inspector, SIT Cybercrime unit, Leh said, “We started working as soon we received the complaint. As per the instruction given by the fake customer service, the victim installed the AnyDesk application which enables the other person to share the mobile/ desktop screen through which the fraudulent hacked the device and withdrew the money.”
“I appeal to everyone not to install suspicious application, share OTP, pin, password get the customer care number of banks from google, etc. If anyone falls victim to such frauds or scams immediately report to the cybercrime unit of District Police Leh”, he added.
The Cyber fraud case was solved by a team of cyber-crime unit investigation officers headed by Inspector Stanzin Paljor, PSI Mehdi Khan, PSI Ileyas under the close supervision of SSP Leh, PD Nitya IPS.
