The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organised “CII Ladakh Sankalp – A Dialogue for Partnership, Progress and People” on July 22, bringing together stakeholders from tourism, renewable energy, entrepreneurship, hospitality, women-led enterprises, and community development to deliberate on Ladakh's development priorities and emerging opportunities.

Speaking at the event, Nawang Thinlas, Managing Director of Himalayan Renewable Energy & Construction Firm (HRECF), emphasised that Ladakh's long-term development must be driven by strong partnerships among the government, industry, local communities, and institutions. He highlighted the region's immense potential in renewable energy, tourism, MSMEs, and agriculture, while stressing the need to balance economic growth with environmental sustainability and cultural preservation.

Rigzin W. Lachic, President of the All Ladakh Hotel & Guest House Association (ALHGHA) and Founder of Dolkhar Ladakh, underscored the importance of promoting responsible tourism models that protect Ladakh's unique heritage while ensuring local communities directly benefit from tourism-led growth.

Tsering Namgyal, Chairman of the Ladakh Chapter of the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO), highlighted the need to strengthen tourism infrastructure, improve connectivity, and position Ladakh as a year-round sustainable tourism destination.

Speaking on inclusive economic development, Er. Kunzes Dolma, Ladakh Chapter Head of the Indo Icelandic Business Association and Founder of the Women's Forum of India, stressed the vital role of women entrepreneurs and local enterprises in driving economic growth, generating livelihoods, and fostering community development.

Tsering Tsomo, Founder of the Ladakh Semyangs Nutrition Centre, highlighted the importance of nutrition, sustainable livelihoods, and community-led initiatives in improving the well-being and resilience of local communities.

Addressing the region's renewable energy potential, Lobzang Tsering, President of Renewable Energy Ladakh Cooperative Ltd., said Ladakh has the potential to emerge as a national model for clean energy development. He emphasised that stronger collaboration among industry, government, and local communities is essential to harness the region's abundant solar and wind resources, enhance energy security, create employment opportunities, and promote sustainable growth.

Highlighting the importance of local participation in development planning, Gelek Puntsog, President of the Electrical Contractors Association, Leh, stressed that Ladakh's development journey must be guided by active stakeholder engagement. He called for greater emphasis on entrepreneurship, skill development, and employment opportunities for local youth while ensuring policymaking remains inclusive and responsive to local aspirations.

The dialogue concluded with a collective commitment from participants to strengthen collaboration, promote innovation, support entrepreneurship, and advance a development agenda that is sustainable, inclusive, and people-centric. Participants welcomed the initiative as an important platform for fostering partnerships and shaping a shared vision for Ladakh's future.

Key recommendations emerging from the dialogue included promoting sustainable tourism with community participation, harnessing Ladakh's renewable energy potential, strengthening MSMEs and skill development, ensuring greater stakeholder participation in policymaking, and building climate resilience through sustainable agriculture, water management, and community-led initiatives.

The dialogue reaffirmed the importance of collaboration among government, industry, communities, and institutions in building a sustainable, resilient, and prosperous future for Ladakh.
