Chumathang hot spring set for transformation with hydrotherapy and tourist amenities
Advisor Dr. Pawan Kotwal chaired a meeting on November 29 at the Civil Secretariat in Leh to discuss the development of the Chumathang hot spring into a prominent eco-tourism and wellness destination.
The meeting featured a detailed presentation by the project’s architect, outlining the 12.5-acre development plan. The presentation covered key aspects such as project features, estimated costs, future goals, and challenges hindering progress.
Advisor Kotwal emphasized the importance of ensuring top-quality development to attract tourists and boost the region's appeal. He praised the collaborative efforts of the officials and reviewed the proposed facilities, which include food courts, pools, and hydrotherapy centers.
The project aims to blend eco-tourism with wellness by integrating hydrotherapy services alongside traditional Ladakhi healing practices. Key highlights include:
• Hydrotherapy facilities: Establishment of hydrotherapy centers, local Amchi stations, and a Sowa-Rigpa satellite therapy center.
• Tourist amenities: Provision for hospitality services, a shopping center with kiosks, public gathering spaces, and rehabilitation centers.
• Sustainability features: Focus on sustainable architecture with a net metering plan to ensure minimal environmental impact.
The Chumathang hot spring, located 138 km from Leh along the Indus River, is renowned for its sulfur-rich, medicinal waters. The project aims to preserve its natural charm while adding modern amenities to enhance the tourist experience.
Key officials, including the Administrative Secretary of the Tourism Department, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, and other stakeholders, attended the meeting.
