Chief Secretary chairs review meeting on compliance reduction and deregulation
Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Ashish Kundra, on January 27 chaired a review meeting to assess the progress of the Compliance Reduction and Deregulation exercise being undertaken across various departments of the UT.
The meeting aimed to review existing regulatory frameworks and identify opportunities to simplify procedures, reduce unnecessary compliance, and enhance ease of governance for citizens, businesses, and other stakeholders. Senior officers from concerned departments participated in the deliberations.
During the meeting, a detailed PowerPoint presentation was made highlighting key sub-priority areas identified under the deregulation initiative, along with a proposed action plan. The presentation outlined priority sectors requiring regulatory reforms to improve efficiency and streamline departmental processes, while also addressing sector-specific challenges, proposed simplifications, and a clear roadmap for implementation.
The roadmap included defined timelines, inter-departmental coordination mechanisms, and monitoring frameworks to ensure timely execution of the proposed reforms. Emphasis was laid on leveraging digital solutions, eliminating redundant approvals, and adopting citizen-centric approaches in regulatory practices.
The Chief Secretary reviewed department-wise roles and responsibilities, progress achieved under the compliance reduction and deregulation exercise, and key regulatory issues requiring intervention. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts among departments to ensure effective and time-bound implementation of the proposed reforms.
Earlier, Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra also held a meeting with various stakeholders to review the ongoing exercise. During the interaction, detailed discussions were held on issues such as strengthening the online portal for tourism-related services, simplifying hotel registration procedures, streamlining certification renewal processes, and addressing other regulatory requirements impacting stakeholders.
The stakeholder meeting provided a platform for sharing concerns and suggestions, enabling the administration to identify practical measures for reducing procedural bottlenecks, enhancing transparency, and improving ease of doing business in the tourism and allied sectors.
Underscoring the importance of proactive engagement, the Chief Secretary directed all departments to adhere strictly to timelines, ensure transparency in implementation, and continuously review regulatory provisions to align them with the evolving needs of governance and development in the Union Territory.
