Chamtse Mental Health and Social Service initiates Parents Support Group amid rising drug abuse concerns in Leh
Responding to the growing concern over drug addiction in Ladakh, Chamtse Mental Health and Social Service has initiated a Parents Support Group to assist families affected by substance use disorders.
Members of the Parents Support Group, along with representatives from Chamtse Mental Health and Social Service, met Lieutenant Governor of UT Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena, on May 11 to discuss the pressing issue. The Lieutenant Governor assured them of his support and necessary action to address the growing menace.
The first session of the Parents Support Group was held on March 22, where parents came together to share their experiences, challenges, and concerns regarding addiction and the lack of adequate support systems. Key issues highlighted during the session included strengthening treatment services, upgrading de-addiction facilities, increasing bed capacity, establishing a separate wing for female patients, recruiting trained professionals, ensuring comprehensive rehabilitation measures, post-discharge follow-up, and effective implementation of drug control laws.
Drug addiction is not merely an individual struggle; it affects families and society as a whole. Collective efforts, stronger support systems, and timely intervention are essential to safeguard the future of the youth and preserve the social fabric of Ladakh.
Chamtse Mental Health and Social Service remains committed to supporting individuals suffering from mental health and substance use disorders, along with their caregivers and families, through counselling, awareness, advocacy, and community-based support initiatives.
