CEC, Wangyal, chairs meeting to review essential supplies in Leh district
To review the supply and distribution of essential commodities in Leh district amidst lockdown, Gyal P. Wangyal, CEC, Hill Council, Leh convened a meeting of Executive Councillors, Leh with Saugat Biswas, Divisional Commissioner/Secretary Food Supplies Ladakh and Sachin Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Leh at Council Secretariat on April 7.
Saugat Biswas, Secretary Food Supplies Ladakh briefed CEC that at present UT Administration is airlifting essential commodities including fresh vegetables in tons on daily basis in Indian Air Force flights from Delhi/Chandigarh and assured that as per the requirements airlifting of essential supplies will continue to meet the demands of the public during lockdown period.
Regarding the distribution of essential supplies in the district, CEC Wangyal stressed on giving priority to far-off villages of the district in distributing essential goods for sale ensuring equitable distribution on fixed rates.
Wangyal said that besides stocking of essential commodities for Leh district, the timely stocking of construction materials through contractors is also important to carry out the developmental works keeping in mind the short working season in the district. Also, he discussed the opening of Srinagar –Leh road for trucks in a controlled way for stocking of essential goods and construction materials initially.
The meeting also discussed the nature of important works in the district including flood protection bunds which needs timely tendering so that works could be executed timely when the situation gets normal.
Regarding relaxation to carry agriculture works in view of the upcoming sowing season in the district, Div Com Ladakh and DC Leh assured that farmers will not face any difficulties to practice their agriculture works.
