CEC reviews redevelopment projects for Baroo and Kargil town
CEC, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, chaired a meeting on December 20 to review redevelopment initiatives for Kargil town and the Baroo area.
The meeting was attended by Executive Councillors Zakir Hussain, Kacho Mohd Feroz, and Er Punchok Tashi; Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC Kargil, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse; and other key officials, including the Administrator Municipality, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR), and the Executive Officer of the Municipal Committee Kargil. The Directors of FCS&CA and Urban and Local Bodies joined virtually. Councillors representing Baroo and Town constituencies also participated, sharing their insights and developmental priorities.
Consultant Rigzin presented a comprehensive proposal outlining redevelopment projects for the Baroo area. Key initiatives included the creation of green spaces, parking facilities, and other urban infrastructure improvements aimed at enhancing the town's environment and livability.
To expedite progress, it was decided that the Deputy Commissioner will conduct site visits to identify suitable locations for the proposed projects in Baroo.
Discussions also focused on constructing a mechanized multi-level parking facility in Kargil's main bazaar. The Tehsildar informed the meeting that 4 kanals and 15 marlas of land, currently held by various departments, including Tourism, FCS&CA, Handicrafts, Cooperatives, and the Municipal Committee, could be utilized for the project. A committee, headed by the ADC, will oversee the handover of these properties to the Municipality to facilitate construction.
Temporary arrangements will be made for the affected departments to ensure uninterrupted operations during the redevelopment process.
The CEC emphasized the importance of timely execution and announced a follow-up meeting at the end of the month to review progress on the identified projects.
