CEC reviews preparations for Losar, Christmas, and New Year festivals

In preparation for the upcoming Losar, Christmas, and New Year festivals,CEC, LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, convened a meeting at the Conference Hall of the Council Secretariat, on December 12 to review necessary arrangements.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Chairman Tsering Angchuk; Executive Councillor for Minority Affairs Ghulam Mehdi; Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Leh, Shruti Arora; Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Sonam Deachen; Additional District Divisional Commissioner, Leh, Sonam Nurboo; Executive Engineers from PDD, PHE, and R&B; Chief Medical Officer, Dolma Chuskit; Deputy Registrar Cooperatives; Assistant Director of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, Leh; Range Officer of the Forest Department; Vice President of the Ladakh Buddhist Association, Rigzen Dorjey; President of the Christian Association, Leh, Sonam Parvez; and President of the Merchant Association, Tsering Angchuk.

The meeting aimed to take stock of preparations to ensure smooth and successful celebrations. Discussions focused on a series of events planned in Leh market from December 20 to December 31, marking the festive season for Losar and the New Year. Activities include cultural performances, choirs, and market promotions designed to engage the community and visitors alike.

Key issues were addressed to ensure the uninterrupted availability of essential commodities in the market and cooperative stores. Critical services such as water supply and power management will be closely monitored to meet increased demand during the celebrations, with backup generators on standby to prevent disruptions. Medical safety remains a top priority, with well-equipped first-aid teams positioned throughout the venue. Fire safety protocols will also be rigorously enforced to ensure the well-being of all participants and spectators.

A particular concern raised during the meeting was the non-availability of juniper, a plant of significant cultural and ritualistic importance during the Losar festival. Steps are being considered to address this issue to uphold the festival’s traditions.

This collaborative meeting underscores the commitment of all stakeholders to organize well-coordinated celebrations, fostering a festive and harmonious atmosphere for the community.
