CEC Leh meets Home Minister, discusses key issues and development of Ladakh

CEC, LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson, accompanied by Tarun Chugh, BJP National General Secretary and Prabhari Ladakh, met with Home Minister, Amit Shah, to express deep gratitude for the Government of India’s unwavering support towards the development and welfare of the Union Territory of Ladakh.
During the meeting, CEC Leh thanked the Prime Minister and the Home Minister for addressing the long-pending issue of Daily Rated Workers (DRWs) by extending benefits under the consolidated guidelines of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). This decision has provided much-needed relief to 1,900 DRWs. Additionally, he informed the Home Minister about the constitution of a UT-level committee to address the concerns of those not covered under these benefits.
He also expressed appreciation for the special financial support provided over the past five years since Ladakh became a Union Territory. This support has significantly contributed to the successful implementation of major development projects across the region. Under the Vibrant Village Program, he specifically thanked the Home Minister for allocating special funds for initiatives such as the promotion of border tourism and the opening of new tourist destinations, including Demchok, Siachen Base, Marsimik La, Hanle Dark Sky Reserve, and the potential opening of more venues like Galwan Valley.
CEC Leh also extended his gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Home Minister for their commitment to developing sports infrastructure, including the construction of a football stadium, an international-standard ice hockey rink, and indoor stadiums. He highlighted the promotion of sports under the Khelo India initiative and Ladakh’s growing representation at national and international levels.
Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of transformative projects approved under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. These include the Bakula Rinpoche Shardanjali Park, Zojila Tunnel, Shinkun La Tunnel, Kayla Tunnel, NPD Road, CDFD Road in Changthang, Leh-Nubra Road widening, Changthang Road widening, the proposed Khaltse-Leh Road widening, the new Leh Airport Terminal extension, the Kargil-Zanskar two-lane PS road with major bridges, the Pashmina De-hairing Plant, Leh Bypass Road, Leh Biodiversity Park, Turtuk Micro Hydel Project, and the sanctioning of a medical college, engineering college, and Central University for Ladakh. These projects are set to significantly enhance connectivity, infrastructure, and development across both districts of Ladakh.
He further highlighted Ladakh’s unprecedented progress, including the establishment of five new districts, which has strengthened the region’s administrative and developmental framework, paving the way for sustainable growth.
During the discussion, CEC Leh raised concerns regarding budget curtailment and urged the enhancement of LAHDC’s budgetary allocation, either in the Budget Estimates or the Revised Estimates (RE). He also underscored the importance of continued support for transformative projects and emphasized the need to initiate the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage, which holds immense cultural and spiritual significance, besides promoting tourism and livelihood opportunities.
Additionally, he requested the Home Minister’s support in approving critical tunnel projects, including the Fotu-La Tunnel, Taglang-La Tunnel, Baralacha-La Tunnel, Singay-La Tunnel, and Khardong-La Tunnel, which are crucial for improving connectivity and accessibility in the region.
CEC Leh also urged the Home Minister to inaugurate key completed projects in the new Union Territory and reaffirmed Ladakh’s commitment to progress under the visionary leadership of the Prime Minister and the Home Minister. He expressed his dedication to fostering collaboration to ensure continued growth and prosperity for Ladakh.
