CEC Kargil visits Brako village following Brown Bear attacks, assures immediate safety measures
Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, visited Brako village in Sankoo Sub-Division on July 6 following recent brown bear attacks that have created fear and panic among local residents.
During the visit, villagers informed the CEC that a brown bear had entered the premises of Government Middle School, Brako, during the night, raising serious concerns over the safety of students and staff. They also reported repeated attacks on livestock, which have left residents apprehensive and reluctant to carry out their routine agricultural activities due to the persistent threat of wildlife encounters.
Taking serious note of the situation, Dr. Akhoon assured the villagers that LAHDC Kargil would extend all possible support to address their concerns. He directed officials of the Wildlife Department to take immediate and effective measures to prevent further wildlife attacks, ensure public safety, and provide all necessary assistance in accordance with established norms.
During the interaction, the villagers submitted a memorandum seeking urgent intervention to safeguard lives, livestock, and agricultural activities in the area.
Officials of Government Middle School, Brako, also submitted a memorandum requesting urgent infrastructure upgrades to enhance the safety and welfare of students.
The CEC gave a patient hearing to the issues raised and assured the villagers and school authorities that their genuine demands would be taken up on priority. He reiterated that every possible effort would be made to strengthen public safety, improve school infrastructure, and ensure timely support from the concerned departments for the people of Brako.
