CEC Kargil reviews snow clearance efforts at Zojila Pass

Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon conducted an extensive visit to Zojila Pass on March 21 to review the ongoing snow clearance operations.

He was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse; Senior Superintendent of Police, Shree Ram R; Chief Engineer Project Vijayak, Brigadier Rahul Oberoi; SDM Drass, Vishal Atri; Officer Commanding 55 RCC Mulbekh, Major Ankur Laghate; Executive Engineer Mechanical, Mohd Hassan; Assistant Director Information, Raza Ali Abidi; DySP Traffic, Anayat Ali; Councillors Abdul Wahid (Bhimbhat) and Abdul Samad (Ranbirpora); along with other district officers and officials from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).

During the visit, the CEC commended the relentless efforts of BRO personnel in clearing the snow under harsh weather conditions. As a token of appreciation, he provided cash incentives to the workers and praised their commitment. Additionally, the district administration distributed blankets as a gesture of support.

BRO officials briefed the CEC on the ongoing work, stating that snow clearance is progressing steadily from both sides of Zojila, with approximately 1 km being cleared daily. They informed that Zero Point was expected to be reached by the end of the day, and the pass is likely to be opened for vehicular traffic within the next 4–5 days—ensuring the timely resumption of essential supplies from Srinagar to Kargil.

Later, Dr. Akhoon visited the eastern portal of the Zojila Tunnel, where he interacted with workers and engineers. He was informed that only 2.3 km of tunneling work remains. The CEC lauded the dedication of the workforce operating under extreme conditions and assured full support for the timely completion of the project.
