Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, on February 9 met Union Minister for Minority Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, in New Delhi and held detailed discussions on key issues related to the welfare and development of Kargil district.

During the meeting, the CEC highlighted important matters concerning minority welfare, including the establishment of a Centre of Excellence for Skill Development in Kargil and the setting up of residential hostels at Sub-Divisional Headquarters in the district under the Revised Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK), an initiative of the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India.

Dr Akhoon sought the Minister’s special attention towards establishing the Centre of Excellence for Skill Development to equip the youth of the district with market-relevant skills, enabling them to meet contemporary employment demands. He emphasised that such an initiative would provide much-needed skill training opportunities, particularly in view of the limited employment avenues available in the region.

The CEC further urged the Ministry to extend full benefits of various Central Government schemes aimed at the welfare of minorities to the people of Kargil district.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju gave a patient hearing to the submissions and assured that the concerns and demands raised would be considered positively while covering the district under the ambit of schemes of the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India.
