CEC, Kargil, chairs meeting with NHPC officials after tragic incident in Suru river
In the wake of a tragic incident in Suru River, where a young girl lost her life due to the sudden release of water, CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon convened a meeting with the project head of the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) Kargil and other officers on November 4.
The NHPC representatives handed over an immediate relief of ₹50,000 in cash to the CEC and assured the council of providing an ex gratia compensation of ₹ 2 lakh to the victim's family promptly.
CEC Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon emphasized the need to enhance safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
The meeting highlighted collaborative efforts between the LAHDC, Kargil, and NHPC in addressing the aftermath of the tragic incident and their shared commitment to enhancing safety measures, contributing to community welfare, and promoting local employment opportunities.
Furthermore, CEC and NHPC officials engaged in discussions about various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. CEC Akhoon requested NHPC to support the community by providing a portable lodge for patient attendants at the district hospital in Kargil, enhancing the healthcare infrastructure for local residents.
In a bid to boost employment opportunities for the local population, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon also urged NHPC to prioritize the recruitment of local candidates for positions within the corporation. Supporting the development and welfare of the region remains a key focus for LAHDC, Kargil, and NHPC.
The CEC also highlighted the Khul issue of the Minjee village residents to which they assured to look in the matter.
