CEC, Hill Council, Kargil, discusses BRO projects with Chief Engineer, Project Vijayak
Chief Engineer, Project Vijayak, Border Road Organization (BRO), Ashish Gambir briefed about various BRO projects being executed in Kargil district to CEC, Hill Council, Leh on March 1.
Chief Engineer, Ashish Gambir informed that the recently announced bypass from Drass to Pushkum via Shimsha Kharboo is in tendering process and work will also start soon on the project. This road is expected to decongest and minimize the traffic load on Kargil and Drass town.
He apprised CEC that work on Kargil to Batalik road is already going on. The survey on the Hambuting-la tunnel is also done while the further process will be done soon.
CEC, Hill Council, Kargil further discussed Khangral to Sanjak road realignment. It was decided in the meeting to conduct a joint survey by BRO and Revenue Department Kargil on the project. Accordingly, the CEC assured to take the issue with the UT Administration.
Ashish Gambir further assured those local workers, who have labour cards as per MGNREGA, will be engaged in project Vijayak on a wage hike of two times. The MGNREGA workers now get wage of ₹214 per day while the BRO project will provide at least ₹600 per day.
He further appraised the CEC on Zojila Pass opening where only 2-3 kms of snow clearance have left from the Srinagar side. He further assured to open the road as soon as possible.
