Under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), a field activity was successfully conducted on April 25 at the Model Apple Orchard, Himya (Rong Changthang) by Krishi Vigyan Kendra Nyoma in collaboration with the School of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SAST), University of Ladakh.

The programme was led by Principal Investigators Phuntsog Tundup and Sonam Spaldon. It witnessed active participation from local farmers and villagers of Himya Khatapoo, reflecting strong community engagement in horticultural development.

During the field visit, several key activities were undertaken to improve orchard management practices. Demonstrations on intercropping using low tunnel technology were conducted at the model orchard site to promote efficient use of space and resources. Gap filling of cold-resistant apple cultivars was also carried out jointly by the KVK team and local farmers to enhance productivity and sustainability.

To support the farming community, essential tools and training materials—including secateurs, pruning guidance, and mulch sheets—were distributed among participants. These inputs are expected to strengthen scientific orchard management practices in the region.

The programme concluded on a positive note, with Thinley Angmo expressing gratitude to the Principal Investigators and the KVK Nyoma team for their continued support in advancing horticulture in the region.
