Bilques Bano elected as new President of Student Council, GDC, Nubra
Bilques Bano, 5th semester as President; Tsewang Nurboo, 3rd semester as Secretary; Rigzin Wangtak, 5th semester as Cashier of the Student Council, Govt. Degree College was elected on May 13.
The swearing-in ceremony was held on the same day and Dr Tsewang Motup Principal of the College / Chief Election Commissioner administered the oath to the newly elected members of the Students' Council.
The Returning Officer, Sabah Sharif presented the certificate of election with traditional Khataks to the winning candidates.
Principal, GDC, Nubra congratulated the elected representatives and expressed his hope that they will become a bridge between the college authorities and the student community the college and will ensure students' participation in the decision making of the college. He exhorted them to work for the welfare of the students and bring glory to the college. He assured all possible support to the Students Council.
The election of Student Council for the session 2022 was carried out on May 13. Election notification was issued by Chief Election Commissioner/ Principal Dr Tsewang Motup on May 10 and the last date for submitting the nomination file was May 12 till 3 pm.
A total of seven candidates filed their nomination with the Returning Officer and after scrutiny, all were found eligible. The election was held for the posts of student council President, Secretary and Cashier. On the day of polling, the election process was started with a brief elaboration of the rules and regulations of the electoral process by Sabah Sharif.
The officers who were appointed for conducting a free and fair election comprises of Assistant Professor, Sabah Sharif - Returning Officer; Lecturer, Fatima Bano - Sector Magistrate; Dr. Stanzin Namgail-Presing Officer; Assistant Professor, Tsewang Lahmo - Polling Officer and Assistant Professor, Dr Jigmet Ladol - Polling Officer II.
The entire election process was conducted by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) Committee of the college comprising Prof. Sabah Sharif, Prof. Tsewang Lahmo and Dr Jigmet Ladol under the patronage of the Principal of the college.
Through the conduct of this election in a befitting manner, the college authorities tried to create awareness amongst the students as per Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP), a flagship programme of the Election Commission of India.
