Awareness programme on Myopia and Cataract held in Gya-Miru village
Smile Foundation, in collaboration with the CDSL–Ladakh team, on January 8 organised an awareness programme on myopia and cataract at Gya-Miru village in Ladakh.
The programme aimed to educate the local community on the prevention, early detection and management of common eye disorders. A total of 25 beneficiaries participated in the awareness session.
The session was led by Dr Junaid Fayaz (MBBS), who explained the early signs and symptoms of myopia and cataract, emphasised the importance of timely diagnosis, and outlined key preventive measures. He also provided practical guidance on the need for regular eye check-ups and effective monitoring to manage these conditions and prevent complications.
Local residents actively participated in the programme, showing keen interest in eye health awareness. Beneficiaries raised relevant questions related to myopia and cataract, helping to foster a better understanding of the conditions. The session also addressed and dispelled common misconceptions surrounding eye disorders, reinforcing the critical role of early diagnosis and timely treatment.
Participants expressed gratitude to Smile Foundation and the CDSL–Ladakh team for bringing essential healthcare awareness services to their village and for their continued support to underserved communities.
