Awareness campaign on junk food held in Lalok, Changthang
Ten Friends of Lalok (a local volunteer group), organised an awareness campaign on junk food in various schools and Chushul village of Lalok Changthang on April 1 and 2.
The campaign aimed to educate students and villagers on the harmful effects of junk food on their health and encourage them to make healthier food choices.
The campaign was conducted at Centralized Residential School Tharuk, Middle School Tharuk, Residential School Kargyam, and Chushul Village, and was attended by over 900 students and villagers. Dr. Nordan Otzer, a health expert, and Jigmet Sangyas of Local Future were the resource person for the campaign.
The experts spoke on the adverse effects of junk food on physical and mental health and also shared tips on how to make healthier food choices.
During the campaign, the students were also shown interactive presentations on the dangers of consuming excessive amounts of junk food, including obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. The students were encouraged to adopt healthier eating habits, including eating more fruits and vegetables, local food, and reducing the consumption of junk food.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Nordan Otzer said, "I am glad to see such a great initiative by Ten Friends of Lalok. It is crucial to educate children about the importance of healthy eating habits, and I hope this campaign will help students make better food choices in the future."
