31 farmers participate in sustainable agriculture awareness programme at Liktsey
As part of the month-long Khet Bachao Abhiyan 2026, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Nyoma, in collaboration with the Agriculture Department, Nyoma Zone, organised a programme at Liktsey village on June 25 to promote sustainable farming practices and ensure timely access to government welfare schemes for the farming community.
Nawang Palkit, In-charge Agriculture Extension Officer, Nyoma, conducted an extensive awareness session for farmers on various government schemes and their benefits. She also delivered a practical demonstration on natural farming under the National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF) and the ATMA scheme, explaining methods, required inputs and advantages of adopting natural farming practices in the high-altitude cold arid conditions of Changthang.
During the programme, Soil Health Cards were distributed among 29 farmers.
Dr. Phuntsog Tundup, Head, KVK Nyoma, delivered a session on organic farming practices for sustainable agriculture. He explained the scientific basis for adopting organic and natural farming methods and highlighted their long-term benefits for soil health, crop quality and ecological balance.
Dr. Tashi Dolkar, Scientist, KVK Nyoma, briefed farmers about the objectives, vision and significance of the Khet Bachao Abhiyan programme, encouraging greater participation from the farming community.
Dr. Stanzin Diskit, Plant Pathologist, conducted an awareness session on disease and pest management under organic farming, equipping farmers with practical techniques to control crop diseases without relying on chemical inputs.
The programme witnessed active participation from 31 farmers of Liktsey village, who engaged in discussions and demonstrations aimed at strengthening sustainable agricultural practices in the region.
