3-day residential training for PHE department begins
3-day Residential Training of L-2 Functionaries of PHE Department UT Ladakh on Operation and Maintenance (O&M) of Rural Water Supply Systems (RWSS) was organised by “We The People” an empanelled Key Resource Centre of the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti, in collaboration with PHE-I&FC Department UT Ladakh at Conference Hall, Baroo on December 18.
Superintending SE PHE and I&FC Kargil, Maqbool Hussain inaugurated a 3-day training. He emphasised the importance of ensuring community participation especially the Village Water and Sanitation Committee (VWSC) in the daily operation of the rural water supply systems (RWSS) and extended support to PHED in the maintenance of the RWSS.
He said there has been a paradigm shift under JJM from an engineering-led approach to a community-led approach in making RWSS sustainable and emphasized the role of engineers to become social engineers in strengthening the RWSS ecosystem and assisting the local community for an efficient and effective O&M of RWSS.
Chief Planning Officer Kargil, Abdul Hadi emphasised on the aims and objectives of holding this L2 functionaries training and its importance for the participants in understanding the different aspects of sustainability in O&M of RWSS.
He said District Administration Kargil has always landed their support to effective implementation of JJM in the district. He assured that the District Administration will extend the full support in the future as well. He advised the participants to take maximum benefit of the 3-day training session.
CEO “We the People”, Ajay Magapatra gave a brief introduction to the training of L-2 Functionaries on O&M of RWSS. He introduced the topics to be covered during the training including source sustainability, operational sustainability, financial sustainability institutional sustainability in O&M of RWSS and other related topics to be discussed during the session.
Assistant Engineers, Junior Engineers of PHE Department besides other concerned officers were present during the meeting.
