18 young artist staged play on corruption

The world theatre day was celebrated with great enthusiasm by the theatre lovers of Ladakh on March 28 at Lotsava Auditorium hall, J&K Cultural Academy, Leh.
The day also marked the conclusion of 10 days theatre workshop which was started on March 19 with a total of 18 young artists.
Mipham Otsal, Director, Ladakh Theatre Organization said, “Theatre is a very powerful art form and if one understands it than Ladakh will go and stand exclusively in the world of art. Every year we try to introduce youngsters in the theatre world by conducting workshops, training and making them understands the importance of art and culture.”
He said, “Theatre is not a new thing in Ladakh and it is not something that people don’t understand it the point here is that the society doesn’t have time to bestow. We are busy in the materialistic world and struggling to thrive in the society”.
“Over the years we have changed so much with the time that now we are realizing the importance and looking of our identity, language, tradition and culture ”, he added.
Chief Guest of the occasion, Manjula Upadhyay, Cine & Theatre artist expressed her happiness to be part of the celebration.
Talking about theatre, she said, “Theatre develops a person in lot many ways. The more you get involve and participate the more you will understand its importance and value. The play is a collaborative work of each and every artist participating in it and is carried on by understanding the strength and difficulties of each and everyone. Thus, theatre brings changes and development to each and everyone to become a better human being.”
Manjula Upadhyay stressed on the role of an audience along with the artist to make a play successful. She said that a play cannot be successful only with the effort of the artist but the interest of an audience to watch and understand the message trying to convey by the artist. Also, one should have a respect for those who are performing on the stage.
A play themed on the corruption was presented by the young 18 participants of the 10 days theatre workshop.
The play highlighted the prevalence of corruption in the society because of which many are left struggling in the life. It spreads across the message to understand the ill effect and strive to stand against it collaboratively.
