17th annual review meet of All-India Co-ordinated Research Project on Goats held in Stakna

An annual review meeting of All India Co-ordinated Research Project on Goats was held for two days from June 12 to 13 at High Mountain Arid Agriculture Research Institute, SKUAST-K, Stakna, Leh.
Principal Investigators of AICRP on Goats throughout India, officers of the line development departments, scientists and other governmental and non-government representatives attended the meeting.
All India Co-ordinated Research Project on Goats was a strategically important initiative for increasing income of nomads of Changthang region.
Dr. Sonam Dawa, CEC appreciated Principal Investigators of AICRP-CG Leh for their outstanding work in tribal areas in such harsh conditions.
The meeting was organised in 4 technical sessions and inaugural session. Session deliberations were made on wide-ranging issues of crucial importance of Goats. Few of the success stories of AICRP were also discussed. These were blending of hardcore scientific interventions to newly emerged understandings and experimentations. The deliberations were open to all ideas with established credentials or with the need for the establishment of scientific validation.
A total of 20 presentations were made along with discussion in different technical sessions. Annual work report of various goat farm and field unit throughout the country was presented by respective goat unit in charge. Loopholes pertaining to the goat management system were discussed and future plan for each unit was also decided.
The chairman of the session Dr. J.K. Jena, Deputy Director General (Animal Sciences) ICAR (Indian Council of Agriculture Research) instructed the entire PI’s to make a model of goat unit suitable to existing environment condition.
Decision makers, policy makers, researchers and stakeholders including the nomads of the Ladakh region participated and discussed.
