11 Independents, 4 BJP candidates win in BDC elections in Kargil
With total polling percentage of 98.34%, Block Development Council Election was concluded peacefully on October 24 in Kargil district.
In Shargole, Sodh, Karsha and Lungnaq blocks, BJP won 4 seats, Tsering Nurboo, Zakir Hussain, Lobzang Namgyal and Stanzin Yangzom of BJP won by 13, 1, 1 and 5 votes respectively.
The independents remained victorious on the seats in rest of the 11 blocks, Hajira Banoo won the Barsoo seat by 5 votes, Najuma Banoo Bhimbat by 10 votes, Noor Muhammad Drass by 1 vote, Khatija Banoo Kargil by 3 votes, Murad Ali Lotchum by 1 vote by draw of lot, Pashkum seat Zakir Hussain by 5 votes, Sankoo Mehdi by 1 vote, Shakar Chiktan Syeda Banoo by 2 votes, Tai Suru Amina Banoo by 6 votes, TSG Haji Tahir Hussain by 3 votes and Zanskar Stanzin Sandup by 10 votes.
100% polling recorded from Barsoo, Bhimbat, Lotchum, Shargole, Sodh and Zanskar blocks.While polling percentage in rest of the blocks recorded; Drass 98.21 %, Kargil 97.98%, Karsha 94.12%, Lungnaq 95.83%, Pashkum 93.75%, Sankoo 98.92%, Shakar Chiktan 97.37%, Tai Suru 96.43% and TSG 98.82%.
Foolproof security and other arrangements in all the 15 blocks in the district was made by the District Panchayat Election Officer to ensure free, fair and ethical elections including observance of the Model Code of Conduct.
To ensure smooth conduct of BDC elections, 7 observers appointed by the Election Authority, 7 zonal and 15 sector magistrates, 30 Returning Officers (ROs) and Assistant Returning Officers (AROs), 54 polling personnel including Presiding and Polling Officers and security personnel in adequate numbers were deployed on duties.
Total of 38 candidates including 14 female and 24 male candidates were in the fray for election for the 15 BDC seats in the district for which 827 electors (565 males and 262 females) cast their votes.
